When we first started our project we were interested in activity of the area - it could be human activity, animal activity, water activity, et cetera. We thought of comparing that activity with outside traffic patterns, like BART, which surrounds the canyon. During our process, it transformed more into a social and emotional mapping of the area. Because our schedules clashed, Lindsey and Carlos went to Glen Canyon park to document this activity in the morning by themselves, while I did outside research on the history of the canyon as well as portraits of the people they encountered. While they experienced most of the canyon and people in person, the candidness of the portraits I drew also communicated to me the emotional response to the area. We learned that Glen Canyon Park is frequented by a variety of locals who feel protective and, for lack of a better word, territorial. There's a lot of wildlife, coyote's being the main focus at the moment, but the land seems more touched by human influence rather than nature.
